Sun has a product called ODS (I think). It will stripe your data
across different disks for better performance. Does anyone use this
product and if so is it worth getting? How much (%) of an increase
in performance can it give? I am thinking of using it on a SPARC 20
Model 612. Sun has told me that the second processor will handle the
i/o automatically so would this product help much?

Also does anyone know anything about the SPARC 20 Model HS11 (100MHz
HyperSparc) that is coming out soon?(When)

Pat.

Striping will help I/O, but how much largely depend on what you're doing.

December (quoting sun-flash):

[ ... ]

SMCC's SPARCstation 20 Model HS11 uses the new 100 MHz
hyperSPARC(TM) processor from ROSS Technology, Inc. It is supported by
the Solaris(TM) 2.4 software environment and by a new release of the
Solaris 1 software environment, called Solaris 1.1.2. The new
SPARCstation 20 Model HS11 joins SMCC's highly successful SPARCstation
20 Model 61 at the high end of SMCC's SPARCstation 20 family. The new
SPARCstation 20 Model HS11 is rated at 104.5 SPECint92 and 127.6
SPECfp92.

[ ... ]

The SPARCstation 20 Model HS11 is available in a base
configuration with 32 megabytes of memory, 1 gigabyte of mass storage,
and a 17-inch TurboGX(TM) color monitor. It will be available
December, 1994.

Solaris 1.1.2 is available now for the United States. A
European (French, German, Italian and Swedish) version will be
available in December. Versions for Japan, Korea, PRC and Taiwan will
be available in January.

Have you determined that that system is I/O bound at the disk drive?

Performance increase could only be estimated after you determine if
the device(s) are having performance problems.

More data is needed before someone can make reasonable estimates.
