I love the layout of ftp programs where I can click on the folders and
transfer files. Is there a program out there that allows you to do that
through telnet? Instead of using all the unix commands to mkdir and
move files by naming the entire path...is there a graphical interface?
One that accepts a super user password?

Not with telnet.

I've looked around and found lots of graphical interfaces for the unix server
making it look more like a windows enviroment. What if I want to access the
server from home and I want to use a graphical interface? Something with more
of a
graphical file manager instead of a dos looking window? Where you can still
use a super user password to change anything on the server you want remotely.
Is it possible?

Yes, with X11. See http://www.x.org/

What part of that web site? I didn't see anything about file managers
there. Nor would I expect to actually, since file managers are
something the window manager does, not X.

I'd be interested in knowing if something like this exists as well
though, so please post a more specific pointer.

Thanks

In another newsgroup I asked the same question and this was a response:

Sound like you're talking about any graphical (or even textual) file
manager. Check out midnight commander (mc) and gnome or kde ...

There is a thing called "zannet" and you can transfer file thru telnet.
and is shareware (90 day trial).

I've used it but doesn't work on WinNT only on Win95..

I usually use zmodem-enabled telnet program and use sz and rz to transfer
files (only
small files)

go to altavista.com and type 'zannet' and you will see.

Two ways you can do this, not with telnet, are:
login in on the console and run the GUI,
or if you are connecting from a WIN/PC get a copy of hummingbird -
it lets you run Xwindows apps under WINDOZE. Then you can run some
X-windows GUI tools remotely.

You can install an X server on your home system and run X
applications, including file managers, remotely, with it.

I don't know of any file managers that I like, though, but a
list of them can be seen under
http://www.FreeBSD.org/ports/x11-fm.html (click "Sources" to get
the actual tarball -- not the FreeBSD package).

Is this for like unix to unix or dome other type of connection?
if unix to unix are uucp and rcp to primitive?
if from 95/98 or NT look at facetwin from www.facetcorp.com
It make the unix system look look a big pc. and shares all the resources
like a PC.
I have ben able to replace our novell and most of the NT servers with HP/UX
and Facetwin. Working on the rest.
