I'm trying to put together a system to manage a list of workstations
and other equipment. I was wondering what people on this newsgroup
use to track system configurations, patch levels, upgrades, etc.,
before I go trying to reinvent the wheel. Anyone here know of any
awk/perl/shell utilities that accomplish this?

I am looking for a GUI application, rather that just a shell script file, to do
software installations. Can you help?

What operaing systems are you talking about? Different OS require
different scripts.

I have no experience with it, but you may wish to check out:
shape/part[01-33] "A software configuration management system"
ftp.uu.net/usenet/comp.sources.unix/volume19/shape/*
(It's probably written in C.)
