I'm sure that many people have come across this in their
migration to CDE, as I've seen this problem before. If anyone
can help, I'd appreciate it.

Start the font server on the HP box and have the Envizex terminals
add the server to the font path.

Set up a font server on a CDE machine (HP-UX 10.20: /sbin/set_parms font_c-s),
then add the font server to your font path via the Xterm's setup screen
or with "xset fp". The font path element is tcp/hostname:7000
Good luck!

You could run Pine in an xterm. You may also want to look at the lists
found at http://www.imap.org .
Why did they choose Netscape mail server?

You could try ML (http://people.netscape.com/max/ml/index.html), but I didn't
really care for the interface. This seems to be the only X based IMAP client
that I could find and rely on. But there a few (really few) others. For a
list of these (and other forms of IMAP clients) visit www.imap.org. Also,
with Solaris 2.6, dtmail can be an IMAP client. Or you could just use
fetchmail.

Actually, sun released a GUI IMAP client for solaris, when they first
released their IMAP server.
Dig around on www.sun.com for it.
(it might even be free)

But, it is not a supported product, it is a "reference" client for the IMAP
server product.
We use a really nice package put out by ON Technology called Zmail.
Very configurable. Has its own scripting language, too.
I personally use xfmail as a pop client and think it is an excellent email
client. I have never tried it with imap.
If you have any Solaris 2.6 the dtmail client can be configured to use an
imap server. I have never tried this one with an imap server either.

I generally dislike GUI based MUA's, because it's mostly faster to _not_
take the the hands off the keyboard. Looking for a replacement for elm,
I tried ml, netscape, dtmail, and finally ended up using mutt.
ftp://ftp.cs.hmc.edu/pub/me/mutt/.
It has full MIME support, is highliy configurable, allows key bindings,
keyboard macros, mail threading, regexp searches, and if run in a colour-aware
terminal (dtterm, rxvt, color-xterm) can even highlight different parts of
a message with colours.
A dedicated news group, comp.mail.mutt, was created less than two weeks ago.
In combination with fetchmail, mutt works with POP and IMAP servers.
</advocacy>
Apologies to all. ZMail is NOT IMAP compatible. It sure is a nice
package, though...
Valli
Er, version 5 does indeed have IMAP (as well as POP) support. I'm
using it at work (though not its IMAP capabilities, darn it). On the
downside, you can use POP or IMAP but not both, and it only remembers
one userid/password/server combination, i.e. you can't manage boxes on
multiple servers with it.

I love ML, the virtual mailboxes are wonderful. I get in excess of 200
mail messages a day, and ML makes them easy to handle.

Does the Netscape Mail Server ONLY distribute mail
using POP3 or IMAP?
I've downloaded it several times, but never got
around to setting it up. It was my impression that
it could also distribute mail the 'normal' UNIX way.
Unless of course your 'gods' have decreed that it
has to run on NT in which case you have my sympathies.

Here is a very good MUA, based on tcl-tk and the c-client library.

don't want any sort of text interface and think that if they take their

How about Sun Internet Mail Client (roam). Works in a similar way on
both Solaris and Wintel.

In your case, which is probably different from the original poster, your
staff has PCs. You can use PC-pine which has (also) GUIs.
