Setup ftp and telnet banner ???

Hi,
Please let me know how to setup the telnet and ftp banner on solaris 8,
which display welcome message when user first login.
The ftpd man page tells me to include the line below in /etc/default/ftpd,
but that not worked for me.
BANNER="Welcome msg"

That is the correct way to edit the default FTPd banner, assuming you are
using the default FTPd... I'm not sure what you could do to avert that but
I'll check on it.
To change your telnet banner edit /etc/default/telnetd in the same way, the
default being
BANNER="\\r\\n\\r\\n`uname -s` `uname -r`\\r\\n\\r\\n"
