Hi,
I have a question about the state of an absent cell (an absent neighbor of left-most / right-most cell).
Why do they use the left-most cell as an immediate neighbor to the right-most cell?
What will happen if I assume that an absent cell will always be 0? or 1? or even a random state?
Thank you.

I assume we are speaking of a single rule CA (one rule for every cell).
To not wrap left-right (and top-down for 2D CA) would create a non-finite,
i.e. infinite CA.
