seems that you missed to add the packages you found ...
Regards,

interesting package selection ;-)
anyways I think I'd recommend the glossaries package. Mostly because it
is modern and well maintained.
I haven't tried it yet myself, but will shortly for my Danish LaTeX book.

nomencl may be all you need.

Sorry, here they are
1 listofsymbols Create and manipulate lists of symbols
2 nomencl Produce lists of symbols as in nomenclature.
3 nomentbl Nomenclature typeset in a longtable

I now finally made a nomunclature. I first considered to install
glossaries but even the installation seem complicated to me. Moreover
the whole packages seemed large and complicated.
Then I installed nomencl which is simpler but I think it works fine.
If anyone have good arguments for another packages I am interested.
Thanks for the help.
Installation of ctan packages is elegantly managed by TeX Live 2009. So
I haven't come into any problems with installing glossaries.
One key thing about glossaries is that its author is actively developing
it and offering solutions in a prompt mannner whenever questions are
posted to this group (which I'm very grateful). As a bonus, glossaries
offers more features than similar packages.
But I agree the document is a bit daunting. I actually got started with
glossaries through this know-how doc on www.latex-community.org.
Best wishes,
Leo
