Including Text of BibTeX reference in a footnote?

Hi All,

I'd like to include BibTeX reference entries (i.e the text not just a
number) in the footnotes for a document. I'd expect this to be a
fairly common requirement but am having a hard time finding an answer.

For example, and the (^1) is supposed to be a superscript 1:

There are interesting ways (^1) of doing this.

---
[1] In reading Barbara K. Larson. International Journal of Middle East
Studies,
25(3):544{546, aug 1993. we find several interesting ways.

---

So it's clear: In the footnote, the text from "Barbara" to "1993" is
all being pullled out of BibTeX and the rest is part of the footnote.

Here is what the latex file might look like:

\documentclass[12pt]{article}
\begin{document}
\bibliographystyle{plain}

There are interesting ways\footnote{ In reading ~\cite?{larson} we
find several interesting ways.} of doing this.

\end{document}

Here is what the bibtex file might look like:

@article{larson,
ISSN = {0020-7438},
author = {Larson, Barbara K.},
copyright = {Copyright 1993 Cambridge University Press},
group = {Book Reviews},
journal = {International Journal of Middle East Studies}

}

So just to summarise - the latex I've given above does not work as I
want, the ~\cite{larson} just inserts a number when I want the actual
text of the citation to fit into the footnote and for the footnote
numbering etc. to be preserved.

Any help most appreciated!
