Hello,
I recently switched to a Mac and am using TexShop. I am using the
package epstopdf to convert eps figures into pdf for the Mac, but am
unable to use psfrag. Can someone inform me on the right way I should
be using psfrag in TexShop or send me an example that works on their
mac?
Thanks
Rob

Howdy,

If all of your figures are going to be eps or ps based you might want to
use the latex->dvips->ps2pdf mode (know as TeX+Ghostacript) rather than
the default pdflatex to produce your pdf files. You can make this the
default by settting TeXshop->Preferences->Typesetting->Default Script to
TeX + Ghostscript. You can use it for this session by checking
Typeset->TeX and Ghostscript. You can have the file itself tell TeXShop
to use this method (I have to admit I use this method) by placing the
line

%%!TEX TS-program = latex

as the first line in the document; then when you typeset (Cmd-T) TeXshop
will automatically choose the latex->dvips->ps2pdf method for
compilation (and you won't need the epstopdf package to convert eps->pdf
an more either).

Note: if you use latex->dvips->ps2pdf you won't be able to include jpg
or pdf graphics in your document.

Good Luck,

Thanks Herb.
This makes sense to me. However, I'm getting an error message (a
failure message) when I try this:

This is dvips(k) 5.96 Copyright 2005 Radical Eye Software
(www.radicaleye.com)
' TeX output 2008.12.02:1323' -> /tmp/altpdflatex.
645-1228249381/657AK5.ps
/usr/texbin/dvips: ! Couldn't find header file arial.pfb.
Note that an absolute path or a relative path with .. are denied in -
R2 mode.
### FAILED to generate /tmp/altpdflatex.645-1228249381/657AK5.ps ()

Am I missing something in terms of what I shold have downloaded for
MacTex? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks again

I think you are missing a font, namely "arial.pfb". Try to compile
with:
\usepackage[adobe-
garamond,uppercase=upright,greeklowercase=upright,expert]{mathdesign}
or
\usepackage{lmodern}

and see what happens.
