Hi! New to IEEEtran, I currently encounterd a puzzel that IEEEtran latex template did not states how to cite arXiv papers explicitly, I searched google, mainly, I got three ways:
1, use DBLP's exported BibTex entry
2, use Google scholar's exported BibTex entry
3, use @unpublished which IEEEtran template provided, and input details in the note field, e.g., [arXiv preprint \href{http://arxiv.org/abs/1409.0876}{arXiv:1409.0876}, September 2014]

but it seems that the results generated from the 3 ways are different, so I was confused how should I do it, can anyone who have published papers to IEEE give me some suggestion?

Thanks very much!

AFAIK, there isn't yet an official IEEE-wide policy, it is a IT Society
policy:

http://www.itsoc.org/publications/arxiv/arxiv-faq

under "Q: Is this policy OK with the IEEE?"

"However, the IEEE has not yet formulated a policy toward public
preprint servers such as ArXiv. It appears that the IT Society
is the first IEEE society to address this issue. "

From what I have seen, use the note field with the article
entry type and at the end of the reference, it should be like:

.... ArXiv: cs/0603013.
