In WInEdt, I can easily display two different
files in two horizotnal windows.
I cannot, however, figure out how to display the
*same* file in two different windows so I can
look at different parts of the same file. (This would be like
MSWord's Window->Split cmd.) How can I do this?

To reply directly to me, replace all 'z' with 'a' in email address.

Yes, but I certainly don't want to do that.
I like WinEdt for creating and editing LaTeX
files.

This is a very good start.
As far as I cna tell, it lets me toggle between
two views of the same file.
But I'd lke to *simultaneously* see two parts of
the same file - just the way I do when I do
Window -> Tile Horizontally with 2 files.
(And, no, I don't wnat to make a 2nd copy of my file.
Then I'd end up editing the two & get very confused.)

From the help (in winedt 5.3)

From a post (january 2003) on the winedt mailing list:

"Splitting the Window for different instances of the same file
(note it is the same file but the position may be different) is on
my to do list. There are some technical problems with refreshing
the screen but if I get a break it can be done..."

I think after waiting 10+ years for this feature it's pretty safe to say it will never appear, it's only fair now the Winedt developer faced the music on this so we could all go back to editing latex in MS WORD where the feature has been present since inception. In fact I seem to remember even vim having it in the 80s

Quoting a 2003 thread is a poor tactic, but to satisfy your craving,
switch to Emacs. C-x 2 will split the window into a top and a bottom in
which you can scroll different parts of the same file independently. C-x
3 performs the same action but left-right instead of top-bottom. Both
commands can be repeated inside the subdivided panes, and the boundaries
can be adjusted with the mouse. On very large high-res screens, you can
edit many different parts or separate files at the same time, just as
you ought to be able to in any decent editor...

If you absolutely want to do that, then good luck to you. If your only tool is a
hammer, all your problems will start looking like nails.
