1. Is it possible to use Pan Newsreader for this group?

2. If so, how do I configure the reader to actually do that.

My google-fu is clearly weak, as I can find nothing that actually shows anything remotely useful to setting up a newsreader to read this news group.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Yes.

I installed pan on my system, started it, selected comp.text.tex in
"Other Groups", chose to get the last 7 days headers, and that was
it. If you click on Groups in the menu, you can subscribe to that
group.

It's likely my system is already configured to get usenet service
(for another reader), but that's a separate issue.

I can't figure out how to add anything to pan except news.grc.com. Any other server I try to add, it queues up trying to get a list of groups but then never does anything. The grc news server works flawlessly. Please, list the actual address of the news server, it's port, and all the information.

I've also tried things like:
gmane.org
news.gmane.org
nntp://news.gmane.org

Nothing works.

If your news server is working, you should be able to get comp.text.tex
from it. comp.text.tex isn't a server, it's a group. If you don't get
any groups, your news server isn't working flawlessly. You'll have
to contact the admin at your service provider.
