I am a fairly novice-level user of latex, and I am certainly
unaware of using plian tex.

I'd heard that times packages can help me use Times as the main font,
Helvetica as the sans serif font and Courier for typewriter fonts.
So that I tried yesterday to use that times package in Latex, but
I could not make a success. I do not know how to change following
trivial latex document to use that times-package.

------cut-here-------------------
\documentstyle{article}
\begin{document}
I want this sentense to be printed or to be displayed in Times fonts,
and verb|following sentence| to be printed in courier font, my favorite
font for a font to print a source code.
\begin{verbatim}
#include <stdio.h>

int
main(void)
{
printf("hello tex users~\n");
return 0;
}
\end{verbatim}
\end{document}
------cut-here-------------------

My first thought was that in order to use times package, I should
find something that is related to times-package, by that thought
I guessed that $CTAN/fonts/metrics/adobe/times is the suspected.
But after downloading that $CTAN/fonts/metrics/adobe/times, I
could not make any progress in using times.

Is there anybody explains me the method of using times?

For your information....
[0] I installed tex in a new machine yesterday, using
$CTAN/systems/unix/web2c/web2c-7.0/texk.tar.gz &&
texmflib.tar.gz.
Therefore, in /usr/local/share/texmf of that machine,
there are following files.
README doc/ fonts/ metafont/ tex/
VERSION-7.2 dvips/ ls-R metapost/ web2c/
bibtex/ fontname/ makeindex/ mft/

The "correct" thing to say is

\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{times}

Basically, you need the files in $CTAN/macros/latex/packages/psnfss ,
and also $CTAN/fonts/psfonts/lw35psnfss.zip ,
where eg CTAN=ftp://ftp.cdrom.com/pub/tex/ctan .

You may need to update your file .../dvips/psfonts.map ;
read the psnfss documentation (eg psnfss2e.tex) carefully.

Alternatively, if you are on a Unix system,
it might well be quicker to install teTeX
($CTAN/systems/unix/teTeX),
as this has everything well-arranged.
