Hi,

I have undertaken a project where I'll have to write a 10 page paper using
LaTeX. I can pretty much manage to do everything I want, except one little
thing. At some point, I need to create a complex plane, and put some
points on it. Finally I'll also need to draw a certain circle, and some
line segments passing through these points.
Now I know that it is possible to import eps files into LaTeX. However I
have no idea as to which software to use to create these picture files. As
far as I know, GNUPlot is only used to draw functions.

I am using Linux. Can you suggest me a software, preferably GPL'ed, that
will let me accomplish this?

Thanks and Best Regards,
BB

Probably xfig will be the easiest tool to do that. If you are fine
with describing things in commands, you could also conveniently use
PStricks.

have you tried using gnuplot in parametric mode? Drawing circles,
line-segments and points should be no problem.

Probably have a look at

Sound like your picture is simple enough for the picture environment.
Especially with the new pict2e package and maybe the coordsys package.

If you need to place points on the unit circle according to
mathematical criteria and join these points by lines, ePiX is
extremely well-suited to your task:

http://mathcs.holycross.edu/~ahwang/current/ePiX.html

The output format is eepic (plain text, includes directly into LaTeX).
Scripts are included for conversion to eps and pdf.

Hope that's helpful,

gri http://gri.sourceforge.net/ is a great tool. Take a look at
the cookbook http://gri.sourceforge.net/gri-cookbook/index.html.

Ipe is a point-and-click drawing tool which lets you put Latex
text/formulas into your diagram. Multi-platform, free, fairly simple
though the interface looks a bit quirky to a Windows user. I find it
works very well for mathematical diagrams. http://ipe.compgeom.org/
