Folks, in AMSTeX there was `\subjclass \endsubjclass' to list the
classification. Is there a std way in LaTeX? (I looked in the `amsmath' doc,
dejanews, and searched CTAN, all without avail.) Sincerely, -Jonathan

It's defined in amsart.cls (and the other ams classes)
\subjclass[<year>]{<classifications>}
where year is 1991 or 2000 refering to the edition of the MR
subject classification scheme.

I wouldn't say there is a standard LaTeX way; this is a class
level issue and the sample classes LaTeX comes with don't have
such a command. Because it is basically a footnote, one might use
the \footnotetext command (without any corresponding
\footnotemark).

Thank you Dan. I had already used \footnotetext, but only found the following
way to kill-off a footnote-number being typeset in the footnote:

\begingroup%Locallizing the change to `thefootnote'.
\renewcommand{\thefootnote}{}%Removing the footnote symbol.
%
\footnotetext{%
% 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification
% http://www.ams.org/msc/
\emf{AMS Subject Classification:}~
28D05 % Measure-preserving transformations
Secondary:
54E52 % Baire category, Baire spaces
}%
\endgroup
%%%%/

How should I have removed the footnote-number, I wonder?
