As the MT suffix suggests, this is a MonoType font.

See http://www.monotype.com/grafx/latin/sans/sansserif3b.gif

Unfortunately a search for AFM on their site yielded only references to
"Agfa Font Manager".

However, Arial matches the metrics of the Helvetica font.
So you can use the TFMs for that and just rename them.
(see e.g. http://www.YandY.com/ly1/h.htm).

Or you can create AFM files from the PFM and PFB files (using e.g. the
Font Manipulation Package http://www.YandY.com/products.htm#FMP).

Or, some TeX Systems :-) can create AFM and TFM files directly from
an installed font.

AFM files for Adobe's fonts can be found on their ftp site ftp://ftp.adobe.com
in ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/type/win/all/afmfiles/ You'll need to figure
out the font package number

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/type/all/fntnames.pdf can be handy as a good
to relating PS FontName to actual font file name, as well as font package
number.

But, no Arial listed there...

It's also the same font as the TrueTypes that come with Windows.

ttf2afm -e `kpsewhich standard.enc` -a arial.ttf > arial.afm

should get you in the right direction for creating the afms.

Supposedly the 'real' afm files are on the Monotype CD.

Scary. It's better to just get the tfms, vfs, map file and latex
package from CTAN:

<CTAN>tex-archive/fonts/psfonts/monotype/arial

No need for the AFM metrics.
