Hi.

One can produce handouts in beamer by starting out with
\documentstyle[handouts]{beamer}
This produces one slide per page.

How can one get more than one slide per page (2, 4, 6)?

Thanks.

\mode
<handout>
\usepackage{pgfpages}
\pgfpagesuselayout{8 on 1}[a4paper,border shrink=4mm]
\setbeamertemplate{footline}[page number]

\mode
<all>

other layouts are also available

I have an extention in dlfltxbcodetips.sty which provides a layout called

4 on 1 with space for notes

this is like

4 by 2, but the second column is empty, students can use it for their
own notes.
