I'm working on a book, using the LaTeX book style file. I want to move
the chapter-title upward on the page. Especially when I use the
\chapter*{} command to supress the chapter-number, the title in my
eyes appears way to low on the page. Can anyone tell me what commands
to use in order to shift the chapter-title upward by any length I
like??

Thanks for any suggestions!

Don't you think that the look of \chapter and \chapter* should be
consistent? The reason for this vertical space is to have the chapter
title (being the most important thing on the page) moved towards the
center of the page.

You should use your real name and have a look at titlesec.sty.

Put the following into a .sty file (e.g., mychap.sty).

a) \newlength{\chapdrop} \setlength{\chapdrop}{50pt}
\newlength{\chapsdrop} \setlength{\chapsdrop}{50pt}

b) Copy the definition of the \@makechapterhead command from book.cls to
the .sty file and change the line \vspace*{50\p@}% to
\vspace*{\chapdrop}%

c) Do the same for the \@makeschapterhead, changing the line
\vspace*{50\p@}% to \vspace*{\chapsdrop}%

In your document:
\usepackage{mychap}
\setlength{\chapdrop}{...} % default 50pt, smaller to raise the title
\setlength{\chapsdrop}{...} % as above
