I posted an article some time back asking for a constructed
"approximately equal" sign for LaTeX. What I want is an equals sign
with dots above and below. The suggestion that emerged was that I
should get the AMS fonts and use the associated definition \doteqdot.
My problem is that, while some of the machines I have access to have
the AMS fonts installed, not all do, and I haven't got time to fix
this at the moment. So, as a stopgap, I want a "made-up" \doteqdot.
Any suggestions?
I also asked, in my original article, why the TeX \doteq, defined by
\def\doteq{\buildrel\textstyle.\over=}
produces a symbol in which the dot is slightly to the right of centre.
Any ideas?
