Resources for teaching typesetting?

I apologize, since this question is a little bit off-topic, but maybe
some kind soul can still help me.

I need some tutorials or slides that are suitable for learning /
teaching some typesetting topics, in particular:
- positioning the glyphs (i.e., Knuth's algorithm),
- algorithms for automatic kerning and hinting
- rendering single glyphs (on the screen)

I have done a bit of googling, to no avail.

I will highly appreciate all kinds of pointers.
