Over the last decade St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) has become the biggest high school football game in the country. The two SoCal powers square off for Round Two in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship on Friday at the L.A. Coliseum. The Braves won the regular season meeting 28-0, handing the Monarchs their first shutout loss since 2011.

This is the sixth meeting in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship since 2016 between the two. St. John Bosco has won the last two, including a 24-22 win in last year's championship that snapped Mater Dei's 29-game win streak. The Braves won in 2016, 2019 and 2022. The Monarchs won in 2017 and 2018. They also won in 2021 beating Servite (Anaheim), 27-7.

A huge Georgia AAAAAAA quarterfinal matchup on Friday features No. 17 Carrollton hosting No. 12 Walton (Marietta). These two played in last year's quarterfinals and Julian Lewis led the Trojans to a 52-27 win. The top-rated player in the Class of 2026 completed 22 of 32 passes for 333 yards and four touchdowns.

The third MaxPreps Top 25 matchup is going down in Florida's 2M quarterfinal bracket between No. 13 Norland (Miami) and No. 25 Central (Miami). These two played in October and Norland erased a 20-0 halftime deficit and pulled out a 29-26 overtime win. It was the first time in school history they beat the Rockets.

No. 7 DeSoto (Texas) locks horns with a 12-0 Willis (Texas) squad in the third round of the UIL 6A Division 2 playoffs. Both teams have two of the most explosive offenses in the state. The Eagles are averaging 50.7 points per game while D.J. Lagway enters Friday's showdown with 71 total touchdowns. Lagway and Willis' offense are averaging 56.7 points per game.

A huge semifinal matchup in Arizona's Open Division has the defending state champs Basha (Chandler) squaring off against Centennial (Peoria). Demond Williams Jr. has put together an amazing senior season heading into Saturday's matchup with 3,999 yards of total offense (2,990 passing, 1,009 rushing) and 50 touchdowns. He faces a big-time defense led by Noah Carter and Kenny Worthy with a spot in the Open Division championship on the line.

Playoff matchups in California, Georgia, Hawaii and Ohio are also included in this week's action.

St. John Bosco is coming off a thrilling 43-42 victory over No. 19 Centennial (Corona) in the semifinals last week. Senior quarterback Caleb Sanchez threw six touchdown passes in the instant classic, bringing his season total to 34.
