First of all, thanks to Paul Pichaureau for updating and enhancing the
mathdesign package. But: In contrast to version 1.4 the new cersion 1.5
of mathdesign seems to be lacking the vf-files in the mdput.zip archive
(containing the Utopia fonts).

PS: In the spirit of old Cato: I think, mathdesign should conform to
TexDirectoryStructure.

Yes !

I'm apologized for this incredible bug ! I have uploaded a new version
with the missing vf files. It should be available in a few days.

Well... I think it does... Can you be more precise on the problems you
have noticed ?

isn't there a convention that map files should be in a subdirectory
like fonts/map/dvips ? -- frankly, i don't see the point (it seems
to me that the format is self-identifying), but we might as well do
what the book says.

while i'm at it, there's a MDAcmr.fd, which is wasteful since latex
always tries the lower-case version of the font family first. (of
course, that first attempt will succeed on widnoze, but not on lunix
and other case-sensitive systems...)

You are right about the subdirectory of the map files. I was confused
because my map file (like many others) are intented to be used with
dvips *and* pdftex, so I didn't know where to put them.

But the tds documentation is very clear about that : the path must be

fonts/map/<syntax>/mathdesign

where <syntax> could be dvips or pdftex.

I will correct that, and also the upper/lower case problem.

Thank you so much for these remarks. Typographic stuff in LaTeX is full
of details about file naming and path conventions.

Many thanks for the corrections and thanks to Robin Fairbairns for
clarifying what I had in mind but didn't make explicit. I apologize for
that.
