Hi, I have some trouble with the display of the chapter-names in my
document using report.cls and fancyhdr.

Standard behavior without fancyhdr is to display chapter names in the
left header and page numbers in the right footer. Also, chapter names
are not printed on the first page of the chapter.

All I want to change is that the page number is printed on the right
header instead of the right footer. To achieve this, I did the
following:

\usepackage{fancyhdr}
\fancypagestyle{plain}{}
\pagestyle{fancy}
\renewcommand{\chaptermark}[1]{\markboth{\thechapter.\ #1}{}}
\lhead{\nouppercase\leftmark}
\chead{}
\rhead{\thepage}
\lfoot{\textit{Draft}}
\cfoot{}
\rfoot{}

The effect is, that even on the first page of the chapter, the chapter
name is displayed in the left header.

How do I suppress this?

Many thanks in advance!!!

Regards

Horst

Hallo Horst,

I use the package fancyheadings (\usepackage{fancyheadings}):

% parameters for fancyheadings:
\pagestyle{fancyplain}
\setlength{\headwidth}{\textwidth}
% remember chapter title
\renewcommand{\chaptermark}[1]%
{\markboth{#1}{}}
% section number and title
\renewcommand{\sectionmark}[1]%
{\markright{\thesection\ #1}}

\chead{ }

\lhead[\fancyplain{}{\bfseries \thepage}]%
{\fancyplain{}{\bfseries \rightmark}}
\rhead[\fancyplain{}{\bfseries \leftmark}]%
{\fancyplain{}{\bfseries \thepage}}

\cfoot{}

\pagestyle{fancyplain} is good policy, but downgrading to using
obsolete fancyheadings is not a good idea -- fancyhdr has quite
different (and imo even better thought-out) syntax.

horst (the op) would be well advised to read the fancyhdr
documentation ... just "texdoc fancyhdr" on a tetex-derived system.

Delete the line above.
