Hi,

How do I get rid of page numbers in LaTeX. It seems as it doesn't know
the \nopagenumbers from TeX.

Thanks,

Peter

Thanks to al who answered. Here is the quiz answer for those who asked me
to post it (it's the answer by Phil Hirschborn):

\pagestyle{empty}

If you use \maketitle, you may also need to follow the \maketitle
command with a \thispagestyle{empty} command (yes, that shouldn't be
necessary, but it's a well-known bug).

It's not a bug. It's a feature. This said in all seriousness.

\pagestyle and \thispagestyle are commands that really, because
of their design, are not really end-user commands. When I present
these commands in my LaTeX classes, I make this fact clear and
point out that any document structure in a LaTeX document might
change the page style (other examples include \part in
report/book and \chapter as well as \begin{letter} in the letter
style. And this just standard document styles. A custom document
style might conceivably do other things as well).

When I wrote my in-house style sheet, which includes page headers and
footers, I wrote \nopagenumbers and \usepagenumbers commands to turn page
numbers off and on. If the user hasn't defined special page markings,
\pagestyle{empty} is run, otherwise some internal hand-waving is
employed to suppress the numbers.

How else is the user supposed to do this? Since I have a custom page
style, \pagestyle{empty} trashes the headers and footers as well as
the page number. In other words, I agree with Don.
