Can anyone help with the following problem
In the tabular environment I am trying to change the thickness of the hline,
cline and | commands. (I don't want to change them all of the time)
So far I have tried
\newcommand{\bighline}[1]%
{
\setlength{\arrayrulewidth}{#1\arrayrulewidth}
\hline
}
\begin{tabular}{|c|}
\hline
This is a standard hline \\ \hline
This is test of a hline 4 times bigger\\ \bighline{4}
This is another test perhaps it will work \bighline{4} \\ \hline
This is a 3rd line \\ \hline
\end{tabular}
Is there any way to do this ???
Tanx a lot

I'm not too fussy about how thick my wide '|' are so here is what I do.
\begin{document}
*
*
\begin{tabular}{|c|l|l|c|l|
l@{\hspace{\tabcolsep}\vline}| % Make triple wide
@{\vline\hspace{\tabcolsep}}l| % vertical bar
c|c|c|}
*
*
The idea is to use the @{} construct to add extra stuff. What I put in
is the space that would be there without the @{} plus an extra \vline.
Like Dean, I couldn't get over the hurdle of thick \hline or \cline
so I decided the output looked better with the default selection.

But the answer is the same, and the syntax is easier!
\setlength{\doublerulesep}{\arrayrulewidth}
\\ \hline\hline
(This doesn't work for \cline though)
