Here's an annoying one -- a journal wants my final MS to have boldface
indicated by a squiggly underscore. Any way to do this in LaTeX? Or is a
pen easier?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Don Hosek made some fonts for doing this, back in the dark ages.
cmpica I think was the name.

If you don't want to do install new fonts, I think you'll find ulem and
soul can do this by use of macros as well.

Unfortunately, it also says:

e.g., \useunder{\uuline}{\bfseries}{\textbf} gives a double underline
instead of bold face in LaTeX. ... There is also the \usepackage style
option [UWforbf] to replace boldface with a wavey underline.

UWforbf does handle \bf in math mode, but it doesn't work in section titles,
unfortunately, because the titles are not delimited by explicit braces when
printed by the \section command. For the present version, the \bfseries
command still produces bold face, but \bf makes an under-wave. To get under-
waved section titles you can do

\renewcommand\@seccntformat[1]{\uwave{\csname the#1\endcsname}\hskip 1em}

and later specify \section[...]{\uwave{...}}.
