Hi, folks,

I am writing a paper with IEEEtran.cls. I need to submit this article on
A4 papers. So I use \documentclass[a4paper,twocolumn]{IEEEtran} in the
beginning of the .tex file. The file runs through latex pretty well,
except one warning:

LaTeX Warning: Unused global option(s):
[a4paper].

Does IEEEtran.cls support A4 paper? Or what can I do to make it fit?
Thanks.

The printed IEEE transactions measure 8.25 in by 11 in, shorter and
very slightly narrower than A4 paper. Your article should fit on A4
paper with no problem. (The class file says nothing about paper size;
it sets the top and left margins and text dimensions to match the size
of the printed transactions. The draft option uses different
dimensions, but should also fit.)

Hi there,

For those who are wondering about IEEEtran A4 size paper, you can check out my proposed solution at my blog - http://controlgradstudy.blogspot.ca/2013/04/writing-a4-size-paper-using-ieeetran.html.

The post you refer to was from 13 years ago. Today's version of
IEEEtran (v1.8) fully supports the a4paper option and has done
so for at least a decade:

http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/IEEEtran

IEEEtran will automatically setup the PDF page size of pdflatex or, if
using dvi output, will output a papersize special to do the same for
dvips. However, there is no way to force a user's ps2pdf converter to
use the correct size, so it is possible for something to go wrong at
that step if the user's ps2pdf converter is configured incorrectly.

You can test your ps2pdf converter with the .ps and .pdf test files
in testflow:

http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/IEEEtran/testflow/

I don't believe there is a problem with IEEEtran with regard to the
handling of papersizes, nor do I recommend your solution. Users do not
have to use dvipdf workflow to use the a4paper option, (and I myself
don't typically use it), but it should work fine as long as their
dvipdf application is correctly configured to use, embed, and subset
Type 1 fonts as the IEEE requires. Instead, I suggest an investigation
as to why your PDFTexify does not create a PDF of the correct page
size. My best guess is that it is using .dvi->.ps->.pdf workflow and
that your system's ps2pdf converter is using US letter page. (i.e.,
your .ps file is indeed A4, but the resultant PDF is wrong.)

For MikTeX configuration, the following may help:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2522906/change-to-letter-size-on-texniccenter-miktex

(at the end)

:If you are using LaTeX=>PS=>PDF, then the following will work for you:
:
: 1. Goto Build->Define Output Profiles->LaTeX=>PS=>PDF.
: 2. Goto the Postprocessor tab.
: 3. Select Ghostscript (ps2pdf).
: 4. Edit the "Arguments".
: 5. Change the -sPAPERSIZE=a4 to -sPAPERSIZE=letter.

In your case it would be changing it to -sPAPERSIZE=a4.

Cheers,

Mike

here is a nice way to do it properly:
