Hi, I would like to remove the superscript in all the footnotes in my
document. I read on a previous message in the user group that one can
tell Latex/Tex to make the height of the font to 0pt. This sounded
very clever to me but I have not been able to successfully do it. I
used footnoterule:

\renewcommand{\footnoterule}{\rule{0.0pt}{0.0pt}}

and placed it before the 'begin{document}' of my file.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

I would also like to remove the superscipt on the actual footnote
itself - meaning I don't want a superscript in the text of the page or
in the footnote.

Thank you in advance,

Do you mean "superscript" the property -- I.e., do you want footnote
numbers but not superscript ones?

Or do you mean "remove the number"?

\renewcommand{\thefootnote}{}

This makes no sense to me.

This would be for the footnote rule, and has nothing to do with
the superscript (numbers). And it is wrong for removing the
rule anyway.

Do you mean, you don't want the footnote sign (e.g. the footnote number) to
be set superscript in the text and the footnote itself?

Using a KOMA-Script class (e.g. scrbook instead of book, scrreprt instead of
report, scrartcl instead of article, scrlttr2 instead of letter) you can do
this using \deffootnote and \deffootnotemark. You can find an example of
not superscripted footnote signs at page 76 of scrguien (English
KOMA-Script manual) or page 87 of scrguide (German KOMA-Script manual) or
page 86/87 of the printed German KOMA-Script manual available from DANTE.

Perhaps you're thinking of something like this:
