http://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-pdf-writer.htm says that
PDFCreator does not come in a 64-bit version. I'm running windows 7
64-bit, and it can run 32-bit applications. What is the consequence
of a PDF writer not coming in a 64-bit version?

Probably none.

A very welcome answer. Thanks!

However, it is strange that the comparison site in my original post
lists this as a Con (rather than a Pro). I've been able to use it
without issue, and I'm running 64-bit.

There is a school of computer users who are 'purests' -- people who only
want to run 64-bit operating systems and applications on 64-bit
processors. The reality is that modern 64-bit processors (eg x86_64
processors) have no problem running 32-bit (IA32 / i386) applications.

I expect that evetually, PDFCreator will eventually be built as a 64-bit
application.

In other words, it's not really a con for most people. These people
who do the comparisons strike me as highly pragmatic types, hence
their ability to draw trade-offs between tools with disparate
features. Odd that they would be so purest about this. Ah well,
thanks for the education on the schools of thought.

The reason for this most likely was that Ghostscript (on top of which
PDFCreator is built) did have 64bit versions in the past --- 64bit
versions which were of not much practical use: they were running
slower and less stable on 64bit OS than the 32bit GS versions did on
64bit OS. And the GS developers recommended to their users to NOT use
the 64bit GS in production environments. The 64bit GS has improved in
rmore ecent times however...
