You can open a pdf file in any word processor or text editor, including MS
Word and Notepad.

Of course, you can't open them by double clicking the pdf file icon - you
must use the editor's File:Open command.

Open the file in TEXT mode with, say, Word or Wordpad for a rough overview.
To see the binary codes, you'd have to open it with a hex editor, e.g.,
frhed (http://www.tu-darmstadt.de/~rkibria).

I've tried this hex editor. Now I can see pdf source on the right side of
"frhed". This can help me learn pdf syntax. Thank you so much.

If you have the full Acrobat, you can also use the free Enfocus Browser:
http://www.enfocus.com/plugins.htm

This browses the cos-level and decrypts the streams.

Opera 5.02. "View + Source" opens the PDF (source) in Wordpad. "File + Save"
saves the PDF.

You're responding to a thread from 20 years ago. Also, it's bad netiquette to modify quoted text. Also, your question doesn't make sense.

If you're looking for the original idea behind pdf, search for
"the Camelot paper" by John Warnock.

I think people do this because they're trying to build up a fake
background of network usage for some bogus reason.

Killfile them.

Use the `qpdf` tool to decode pdf files to a readable form.
