I have received a PDF document encrypted with a password. I have the
password, but I want to remove the security for the document so I can
store it without a password.

I could buy Adobe Acrobat Professional which have a feature called
"Remove Security", but this software package is quite expensive.

Any freeware tools for Windows that could help me do this?

Best regards

See pdftk at <http://www.accesspdf.com/pdftk/>. That page contains an
example too, scroll a bit down to ‘Decrypt a PDF’.

Note: You need the OWNER password for this operation (it’s the same
with Acrobat); the USER password is sufficient to view the PDF, but
not to modify it.
