Not sure if this is the right place to go, but from other posts seems
like it might be.

My supervisor received a pdf file by email which, when opened
gives two error messages "Read less image data than expected"
and "Invalid ColorSpace". We can still view the document, but
when we try to print we get the error message "Document could
not be printed. Expected end of color space." The document is
mostly text, with a few small images.

Any ideas what I can do?

Oh, platform is Mac G4 running OS9

Thanks!!
Becca

Upgrade your copy of Reader. You don't give the version, but I'd guess
it is less than 4.0.

unfortunately not that easy, I thought of an old version problem
(even though it was already version 4.0, I thought there might be a
more recent patch) but I downloaded the newest version and it
wasn't any better.

thanks for the idea, though.

What errors are you getting now? Please quote them exactly. The
"invalid colourspace" error I've never seen with 4.0.

If you already have Acrobat 4.0, you may a bug that 4.0
introduced. Acrobat 4.0 sets the encoding of PDF files to
"Plain Text". Then when PDF files are downloaded,
applications will try to fix line endings which ends up
corrupting PDF files.

The fix is run run a program from Microsoft called
Configuration Manager. It will let you change the
encoding of .pdf files to "Binary".

This problem drove us crazy for a long time.

I believe my quotes in the initial post were exact or very, very close,
but I can't check at the moment because I get entirely different error
messages when I try to bring it up on my computer (and can't even
open it because of a font problem) and boss is using hers at the
moment.

The original post said:

It's important to know whether you are still getting "invalid
colorspace" errors when using Acrobat 4.0. If you get this with 3.0,
it is common and understood. If you get it with 4.0 it is a new
problem to analyse.

However, "read less image data than expected" can be seen with all
versions. Meaning: "this file is damaged".
