I'm running Adobe Reader 7.0.1 for GNU/Linux. When I try to open the PDF
document <http://www.azadarman.com/shakarakan/2005/2/manifestComonist.pdf>
I get the following error message:
Cannot extract the embedded font 'BKKDNC +Ali_Web_Samik'. Some characters
may not display or print correctly.
The document then opens, but all the Arabic characters are displayed as
large round bullets.
Ghostscript doesn't seem to like the file either:
[psy@linux:/tmp]$ pdf2ps manifestComonist.pdf
**** Warning: Fonts with Subtype = /TrueType should be embedded.
But TimesNewRoman is not embedded.
**** Warning: Fonts with Subtype = /TrueType should be embedded.
But Ali_Web_Samik is not embedded.
Error: /undefined in --get--
[...]
Current allocation mode is local
ESP Ghostscript 8.15.0: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1
However, opening the file with kpdf works fine. Likewise, a friend of mine
was able to open the document using Adobe Reader 7.0.x on Microsoft
Windows XP.
Is there some way I can batch-fix files like this so that my Acrobat Reader
and Ghostscript can process them correctly? I can fix them by printing to
PDF from kpdf, but this I have to do manually for each file.
According to acroread's Document Properties, the file is a version 1.3 PDF
produced by pdfFactory Pro 2.01 (Windows XP Norwegian).
Regards,
Tristan
