How can I know the amount of Free Memory?

Hi, Everybody
I'm new to progamming transputers so this could have been a
trivial question, but I would like to know
how the amount of free memory (to be malloced()) is to be known?
Is there a system-call (?) or basic routine to do this?
Please help.
