Hi all,
I just acquired a Model I EI thru a great deal on ebay and am looking
for a non-buffered ribbon cable connecting the EI to the CPU. My
current buffered cable doesn't seem to work correctly. I've cleaned
the contacts on the
cable and the cpu and reconnected it but to no avail. The CPU boots up
at 16K and the EI has 32K on board. The computer only sees the 16K and
the disk doesn't boot up. Can anyone point me to where I can get an EI
to CPU cable, or suggest some kind of jury rig? Thanks all. --John

Are you sure you have both the EI an the CPU with the appropriate mods for
the buffered EI?

For a non-buffered cable, you can just get generic IDC connectors and a
piece of appropriate ribbon cable. But make sure you have at least the mod
to the CPU.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply. Ok, the EI is the latest board, one that does
not require the buffered EI cable. As for the CPU, it's the 16K cpu
keyboard that does not have the numeric keypad attached. As for the
ribbon cable, I have several short-length ribbon cables w/connectors
that fit the cpu and EI. Would these generic ribbon cables work?
Thanks again for your help. Appreciate the patience. --John

Hello there,

imho you should have no problem using generic connectors and ribbon,
Just keep the ribbon as short as possible and avoid any mechanical
constrain on it.
