The question: how difficult is it to install this? As far as I can determine
from the docs that came with my system, it's just a matter of mounting the
drive as the controller card is already on the motherboard.
What, if any, jumpers/DIP switches do I have to set?
I'm using the stock CGA video.
Its an IDE drive, I believe a Maxtor.
Any advice or experiences greatly appreciated!

I do now that when the 1000 SL was selling there was a harddisk
sold for the 1000's that already had controller boards built on to
them. The 1000 SL did not originally come with a hard disk controller
so if you want to use your 40 meg IDE you will have to purchase
an IDE controller. Radio Shack sold an IDE controller card sometime ago.
I think they are discontinued now but you still might want to check
your local Radio Shack to see if they have one hanging aroung. The
catalog number is 25-1088. They retail for about $49.95. Good Luck.

The 1000SL/2 has an IDE interface built-in, the 1000SL does not. I think
the same goes for the TL and TL/2.

It's an *AT* IDE drive. The built-in interface on the SL is for an
XT IDE interface.
You'll need the 25-1095 adapter from Tandy.
