I had a little bit of trouble understanding and applying the currently
available information on this subject, so once I figured it out I wrote up
my own procedure. I'm posting it in case anyone else can use it.

-----------------------------------------
How to transfer ASCII files between a TRS-80 Model 100 and a desktop
computer running Win98.

To download ASCII files from Desktop to Model 100

Desktop files must have txt extension
Connect null modem cable between Com1 on desktop and RS-232 port on Model
100.

Desktop:
Configure HyperTerminal for connection using "Direct to Com1"
9600, 8,N,1 Xon/Xoff Flow control

M100:
Start Telcom, Press F3 to check Stat. Should say 88N1E, 10 pps. If it doesn'
t type in 88N1E press enter.
Press F4 to go to terminal mode
Bottom of screen shows full or half duplex. Press F4 to change to FULL.
Press F2 for Download
Input file name (without extension) press enter.

Desktop:
From HyperTerminal, click on "Transfer", "Send Text File".
Browse and select file name, click "Open"

M100:
You should see text display while downloading
Cursor stops and blinks when download is complete. Press F8, Press "Y" then
enter to disconnect. Press F8 to leave Term. "Filename.DO" should be
displayed.

To convert to runnable program file, start Basic, type in
LOAD "FILENAME.DO"
SAVE "FILENAME.BA"

To upload ASCII (DO files) from Model 100 to Desktop

Model 100:
From Term, press F3 to upload
Input file name without extension, press Enter. M100 responds with "WIDTH:"

Desktop:
In HyperTerminal, select "Transfer", "Capture text"
Input name and location of text file to create. Click Start.

Model 100:
Ignore "WIDTH:" Press enter to start transfer

Desktop:
Either copy and paste text to other program, or when you exit HyperTerminal
text is saved to file.

I've always found using the text editor to be more reliable for
transferring text from the PC to the M100. I'm not sure why, but
it always seems to work and Telcom just seems to fail fairly often.
