Greetings:

A school principal I know asked me how much their TRS 80 model 12
computer, with TRS 80 DMP 120 printer, might be sold for. Not
having any idea, I appeal to the net for guidance.

The machine is big, with two 8-inch floppy drives and 64K memory.
It's in excellent shape, and works. They have some software,
including Scripsit, and manuals.

If you have any info about what this system has sold for, or
should sell for, or anything else relevant, please email me
at the address below. (Please don't use your newsreader to
reply; it will go to an account I don't read as often.)

I'll summarize if interest is expressed. Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, this computer is plagued with the same problem as all
other working old computers. No one wants it. I know it runs Scripsit just
fine. However very few people want to use Scripsit with all of the bells
and whistle word processors on the market. Trade in - No one wants it.
When you can buy a new MS-DOS 486sx with a bubbble jet printer and good
Word Processor for 1200-1300, how much is the Model 12 worth? You might
find a business or school that has one and would want it for back up.
At one time (as I recall) new price was 2900.00

To give you some idea, I just bought one from a local retail store (to scrap
for parts)...

...for $5.

The going rate for most computers with software is from free to
about $300.00. It all depends on what is included in the package
deal and how bad the buyer wants it. I would advise starting out
asking $100.00 for the whole package (computer, printer, software
and all docs), if you have no bites for about a week, then drop
the price $25.00 every two weeks till you sell it.(just an
example).

The price on the Model 12s when they were introduced in January 1983
was $3,899! This included one internal 8in floppy and 64K of RAM.
The biggest advantage to these over the Model II that they replaced
was the 1.2MB floppies and a card cage that was user accessible.

The early Model 12s suffered from severe cooling problems which
were subsequently cured by adding a huge fan on the rear cover
door -- later moved into the case instead of the removable door.
