I need to make a conversion cable.
Does anyone have the pinouts for the floppy disk cable on the Tandy
1100FD? Even better, does anyone have manuals and/or schematics of
it? I would be willing to share the results of my modifications and
extensions with the newsgroup.
Best regards,
Ivan Baggett
Hello Ivan,
You can order schematics from your local Radio Shack store.
Also, Tandy has a fax-back phone number 1-800-323-6586. Call that number by voice, a audio menu will talk
you through the process of selecting documents, and then you hang up; now, the system will call the
fax number you gave it during the menu interaction and fax the documents you requested. You probably
cannot get schematics this way, but you can get parts lists, which you may need to get the part number of
the schematic package you want to order from the store.
Hope this helps,
Charles

Go to http://www.radioshack.com/support/.
They have schematics of all their tandy computers there.
If you succeed, let me know! I have one I bought at a Goodwill and that floppy
is the only problem. The original drive CAN be had from Panasonic, but it costs
nearly $200 and it's not worth it for an XT-level laptop. But if you can make
a cable for a reasonable price, I'm interested. I'm sure others on the
newsgroup would be also.

Possible, but difficult. He would have to take out the GND, 5V and 12V out
of the cable to the standard power connector. Even when that's possible,
you might not have the place to do so in close quarters like a laptop.

What part number is it ? What is the panasonic equivalent to the T1100FD ?
I might be facing the same dilemma any time soon.
I come back to the same question I have posed here several times already:
are the drives used in the T1000HX the same as the ones in the 1000 TL,
SL/2, TL/2 and 1100FD ? In other words, are they cable-compatible ?

: Please , need help to find a floppy drive for Tandy FD 1100.
: Tandy says, it would take over a year if we ordered one. ( Do they still
: make them?)
That's Tandy for you. The drive is identical to the floppy from the
Panasonic CF-150B laptop since they're basically the same machine.
Panasonic's distributor network carrys them, but they're not cheap. Around
$160 if I remember correctly. The part number in the 1100FD Service Manual
has been superceded by the following Panasonic part:
Part # EME-213AMC
From: Panasonic/Heartland
14212 Overbrook
Leawood, KS 66224
Works good. I fixed an 1100FD in April using one of these drives.

Dear TyRannoSaurus and All:
The difficult is indeed possible. I have done it. See details on my
