Hi

http://minus-zero.net/mirrors/bitsavers.org/pdf/teac/FD55_Spec.pdf
According to this document it seems those jumpers, as they are, not the factory
setting

http://nemesis.lonestar.org/computers/tandy/hardware/model16_6000/floppyfix.html
some comments about jumpersettings for TRS-80 there but since model 16 is quite
different from model I it might not apply.

Many of the straps have to do with "head load" and the TRS-80 doesn't provide
any head load (or in use) signal (pin 4) so head load needs to be autonmatic or
based on DSx signal.

I don't have this precise drive but I have an FD55GFR which I could not get to
work (it is a 1.2MB drive).

Note SD/DD is a controller feature not a drive feature SD uses FM coding while
DD uses MFM so to the drive there are about as many transitions on a track with
SD and DD. HD (1.2MB) is another matter which is selected by pin 2.

This group is pretty dead and most TRS-80 traffic now goes on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TRS-80/
you might find someone there that is using such a drive.

Don,

beside the TEAC docs on bitsavers.org (or mirrors thereof):
http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/teac/

I have two more TEAC FD-55 E F manuals:

TEAC_FD55_A_B_E_F_G_Spec.pdf
http://www.mediafire.com/?95qy9b05jy71x5c

Teac_FD55-E_FD55-F_Drive_Spec_(1981).pdf
http://www.mediafire.com/?gb9a8fpgnz1gym4

Hope these manuals provide you with additional information.

Rainer
