I'm trying to find out if someone out there knows a way to convert the
Tandy Deskmate Diary program data files to ASCII text so it can be used
by other IBM compatible software.
This is my situation:
I have a Tandy RL1000HD computer that I bought in 1990 and which I have
accumulated about 3 years worth of diary data files using the Deskmate
Diary program. I have since upgraded to a 486DX-2 IBM compatible and
would like to convert the Deskmate data files to ASCII text, so I can
import them to the diary program I now use. I haven't tried to load the
Tandy software onto the 486DX-2, but I assume that I wouldn't be able to
anyway.
I appreciate any help that someone could provide to solve this problem.
Thanks in advance.

In comp.sys.tandy on 3 Dec 1995 19:32:17 GMT,
You might be able to do a cut and paste.
In other words? Go to the day you want to convert, select
all of the information (either with a mouse or hit:
Shift-downarrow, highlight all information (it'll be red),
then hit Control-Insert.
Then, Alt-= to Task Switch back to the DESKTOP, go into
TEXT.
Hit Shift-Insert to paste it, save the file as the day (for
example, January 1st, 1995 would turn into: 01-01-95.doc
Hit Alt-= to switch back to the diary, go to the next day,
highlight and Copy, hit Alt-= to go back to TEXT, Paste,
save as 01-02-95 for January 2, 1995, and so on.
It takes a little while, but shouldn't take up more than a
rainy afternoon.

If you can get the few files that are *different* from yours in the
"standard" Deskmate release, you *can* use Deskmate on a normal PC. My
"standard" copy of Deskmate is in storage, so I can't give you specific
file names.
If you find a conversion program, be sure to post here. Lots of folks
want to know how to convert various Deskmate file formats.
