Samba 3.0.4 questions (NSK OS G06.31.01)

I have Samba 3.0.4 working however I have some problems with it.

First problem on some workstations I am able to map Samba 3.0.4
shares to a network drive and others I am not even though from other
platforms I am able to map SMB shares on those workstations where
Samba 3.0.4 is not able to map the shares. This is true even though
on those workstations that I am having a mapping problem the user can
open the Samba 3.0.4 shares and access the files within the share.

Second problem I have not been successful in loging on to SWAT via
port-901 even though I have syncronised the root smbpasswd password
with a guardian alias root password, which I have defined as an alias
for SUPER.SUPER. I never get past the browser logon popup window.

Third question, I talked with a Samba consultant expert and he
indicated that Samba 3.0.4 was a really old version of Samba 3.0.x and
indicated the latest release is 3.0.34 and he wasn't supprised that we
were having issues with Windows. Will there be an upgrade of the HP
NonStop Samba 3.0.x port anytime soon?

Thanks,
Rod Duff

No, not from HP and not anytime soon. There's no funding inside HP for this.

Hi,

just one thing concerning users and passwords. We are using samba and
the samba-password for the user (or alias) is separae from the
Guradian or Safeguard password! I installed samba a while ago and I do
not have problems with it. The only real problem is that you cannot
access type 101 files with a windows-based editor.

I just looked at the latest version of SAMBA out there on www.samba.org.
It seems to have had the Tandem changes included and is a much newer
version. It would still need to be built (i.e. running the configure and
make scripts) but it should have a number of bug fixes.

Hmm, that should work with the latest version (which is still 3.0.4, but
with a timestamp of 2007-08-30, for NSE). I know that Tom Bates added 101
support to Samba.
Well possible that this version never made it to ITUGLIB though.

While it certainly trie that there a much newer version available (3.3.4,
and 3.2.11 for production, 3.4.0pre1 as a beta version, latest 3.0 version
is 3.0.34), I doubt very much that these contain lots Tandem specific
changes.

They may contain a few of them though, I did submit several bug reports to
get some changes added a couple years ago.

Hmm, let's see whether I can get 3.3.4 to fly...

Bye, Jojo

I can say already, that it's not a trivial task. It seems to require a C99
compiler, I'll have to check whether our "c89 -Wc99lite" is sufficient.
Which also means it won't be possible to port it to NSR.

Bye, Jojo
