I have a request to send EMS-messages as SYSLOG-messages to a UNIX-based server using a UDP connection. Does anyboday know about an existing tool for that? Both Guardian and OSS are ok. Worst case I would have to create such a program myself.

My first thought was Web Viewpoint. I believe you can export EMS logs to various file formats and then import those into your UNIX system. But, ff you want an automated solution you may have to write a program.... Anyone else know of a product that would do this. Maybe NetCool?

What about using SNMP traps (already UDP)?

I think you can do this with HP NonStop ASAP, right out of the box. Not 100% sure that you can reformat the EMS text to SYSLOG-messages, but worth a look-see...

Thank you all.
As usual my company does not want to buy another product, so ASAP is not a choice. The product on the Unix system does not support SNMP traps, otherwise it would have been pretty simple by just using EMSDIST. I fear I will have to create a program myself.

I too think so :-). But if you are looking for the format that SYSLOGD writes the log with, here is a sample for you.

Oct 15 22:10:14 anupam-das syslog-ng[3936]: syslog-ng starting up; version='3.2.5'
MMM DD HH:MM:SS HOSTNAME PROGRAM[Event #]: <message>

I have linux installed nearby. Let me know, if you need to see the source for SYSLOG Daemon process.

Thank you for the offer, but I have only to take care of the client. We have already a tool installed on a Linux machine which has to be fed with the messages. I ran a few tests and it is pretty easy to write UDP messages. I am just waiting for the "go" to create the necessary application.
