hi all.

I would like to know the answers of some very basic questions. Hope you ppl wont mind. Just started my career in Tandem.

1.Difference between Structured & Unstructured files..
2.why do we use TAL instead of C here in Tandem. Heard C is also used in some places. Will there be change from TAL to C migration?

Hi...

TAL is the language that the NonStop OS was written, like C for UNIX. You can write C or C++ code on the NonStop now. Many "legacy" apps are written in TAL, so it would be good to learn, at least be able to read...

Excellent synopsis. Some of us have been working on "The Tandem" for many years, and we realize that newcomers may be puzzled by such a unique system.

I always recommend that you start by learned how to navigate around the system with the TACL shell. You can use macros to customize your environment to your liking, and many shops have TACL libraries that are loaded when you logon. This is similar to a .profile file in Linux or UNIX.

And, finally, I highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the NonStop Technical Library. There are many manuals and documents that can help you learn.
