I have been assigned the task of connecting 3 HP Laserjet 4000N's to our
K2006 tandem running D38. We also have a Tandem 5578 laser printer which I
have successfully configured and connected to our development tandem via
it's serial port.

At present the only option I have is to connect the printers via there
serial ports.

I wrongly assumed that I would be able to set up 3 more RS232 ports on our
tandem in the same way as that the Tanbem 5578 is setup, but the HP printers
will not do anything when a job is sent to them, they just display the
message Ready.

I have produced a serial cable to the spec in the HP manual and now the HP
Laser printer will accept a job but it just prints out a load of characters
on the first line.

Has anyone managed to get a HP Laserjet 4000N working via the serial port?
and can anyone help with the configuration on the tandem and/or HP Printer.

I can e-mail the configuration of the port on the tandem as it stands now if
you require it.

Many thanks in advance

Alan Wenlock.

We haven't tried this or heard of anyone doing this successfully
(doesn't mean it can't be done). You might want to call Tandem and
ask them what they think.

The Tandem laser printers which were made by HP have a card that
allows them to be connected via a current loop connection, (we have
one of these printers)

Alan,

Unless you have no present LAN at all, just get the ethernet adapter cards and
set up Fastptcp on the Tandem. This is off-the-shelf and will be working in
minutes. High-speed, reliable, simple.
