For those of you who are running Gasper to monitor your ATMs, can you
explain to me how it works? Does Gasper directly connect to the ATM every
10 minutes or something and dispatches technicians if there is an ATM fault?
How is the software installed? Does anyone have screenshots that they can
share? What percentage ATM uptime can a bank reasonably expect after having
implemented Gasper?

I'm trying to evaluate the Gasper solution on a 25+ ATM network for my
small community bank. I'd like to get an objective opinion from experienced
Gasper customers before I talk to our ATM vendor about it. Thanks.

Gasper pulls ems events so that state changes are captured. That's
the most efficient way to track a moving target. I did an evaluation
on it and passed on it due to the expense. For a small shop, its more
feasible to read the terminal file periodically. I wrote a web server
that worked ok until the # of ATMs hit 50, then I had to write a TAL
routine to replicate the data to an MS-SQL server. Gasper is a great
product, but its expense is only justified for places that have dozens
of users maintaining thousands of ATMs. When you have one ATM
operator, you have many more (cheaper) solutions.

We use Gasper for our ATMs (about 500 of them), and are currently in the
process of moving our ATMs from a Unisys ATM to a NonStop/Tandem Base24
environment.

As far as I know, Gasper does not communicate with the ATMs at all. It
only talks to your host system (Mainframe / Tandem / etc). It will
interpret text messages sent to it by the host, and depending on the
message, can be set up to email, page, place in categories and whatnot.

Frankly (and this is a good time to remind everyone that I do not speak
for my employer, these are only my opinions - Also, I am not familiar
with every feature, add-on, or option available with the system), I am
not incredibly impressed by Gasper, although many people use it, and it
does the job.

As another poster put it, you have to weigh the benefit versus the cost.

Hope this helps...

Oops - Unisys mainframe, not ATM...

Now that's a great disclaimer! Welcome to the Tandem world.

Alan,
For your size shop Gasper is overkill.
If you'd like, I can send you some programs that will do the job.
Whenever an ATM goes down or is close to going down due to short
supplies, these programs will email/page you. Send me your email
address if you'd like to know more.

Alas, I'm not in any real position to suggest an alternative.

This is the product that was chosen by our internal clients - we just
have to run it.

Thank you very much for the offer, though.

Well, I've gotten this far by being a non-commiting weasel...
Just kidding, of course - thanks!

At 25+ Gasper may be cost prohibitive for your size.

Depending on the terminal type have you checked with vendors to see if
they'll provide monitoring ?

Some other monitoring frameworks offer ATM monitoring and ticketing,
but may also be out of your pocketbook.

We're a 500+ ATM shop and use Gasper heavily, works well, but be sure
to check the cost for size.
