Hi,
I am trying to install X11R6.6 (from ituglib) on my OSS system.
So far, I downloaded the package, uncompress and untar. Then I :
- started an X server on my windows PC (cygwin + xfree86 + KDE 3.1)
- export DISPLAY=<my_pc_dns_name>:0
- xclock &
So far it works. But when I try to start xterm, I get the following problem
:
xterm: no available ptys
It looks like xterm needs to have some pseudo-ttys in /dev. Does anyone know
about how to create those ptys on OSS ? I should probably use mknod, but I
can't figure out which major/minor numbers should be used. Maybe I have to
use OSSTTY but how ?
Regards,
Bernard

Hey Bernard,

The xterm in the X11R6.6 from ITUGLIB doesn't currently work because of it's
dependence on ptys. The X11 port from http://www.bsi2.com/ does have an
xterm that works.

Hi Tom,
thank you for this information.
I went to the bsi2 site, and I have not found how to download their
software. Looks like there is no "download" link. Should I write them to get
the software?

Bernard

Bernard,

When I opoen the page in my browser, there are colorful navigation
buttons down the left side of the page. The first Green button near
the top is labeled 'Download Free'. Scroll down to find 'X11R5 User
and Development software' and work from there.
