Until recently I have been using Prognosis to monitor our system. For reason
I won't go into, it is now not available. I really only used a very small
corner of it to display busiest processes in all or single CPUS. I know this
group has been round this a million times before but what can I use that's
cost effective and can do this simple job. Any suggestions (not involving a
ten year license which costs the national debt) gratefully received.

TIA

Richard, if all you need is the busiest processes, look at Sysbusy
from KLD Inc. It is free, doesn't require any products (i.e. Measure)
and uses very little CPU.

Richard,

Maybe you should take a look at the HP/Compaq Availability Stats and
Performance (ASAP) product.

It is a very cost effective solution which will easily monitor your busiest
processes.

Besides monitoring processes, files, comm lines, Tcp/ip, disk, spooler, tmf,
rdf, etc,etc, it can do a lot more, like;
- Alert you(based on customer defined objectives) when your Applications,
System or Sub-Systems start behaving badly.
- Inter-operate with HP Openview, Tivoli, etc..
- Replace much of the Prognosis product monitoring capabilities at a much
lower cost.

For ASAP information, visit
http://nonstop.compaq.com/view.asp?PAGE=OpsMgmt_ASAP

With AutoASAP(an ASAP add-on), Customers can better monitor, at a lower
cost, their Customer and Third-party application availability and
performance, with No Source code changes. Base24 and other major apps are
supported.

To see what AutoASAP can do, visit http://www.tandsoft.com

Hi Richard,

You might want to take a look at CSPs 'Tracker' product. It is a low
cost NSK performance monitor that by the sounds of your message is
exactly what you are looking for. You can find out more about Tracker
and download a trial version from their web site.

Richard,

You might want to check out MOMI by BlackWood Systems. Its a low cost
alternative to Prognosis and even has a free limited-function version
that has just what you are looking for.

download it at www.blackwood-systems.com

MEASGUI is your other option, freely available tool on your sysxx vol.
I like it very much and it has helped improve over all performance.
Sysbusy is a very good one too, thanks to the folks who developed the
program and made it available to the Tandem community.

cheers

There was a very brief thread concerning performance monitoring tools in
the ITUG Discussion Forum for Operations/Performance Management.

http://neo3.sba.com/forums/Thread.cfm?CFApp=54&Thread_ID=15318&mc=7

Not having used all the aforementioned tools, my recommendation (for CPU
and Process busy monitoring) goes to Offender for being fast, easily
configurable, transportable, and free.
