This is a BRAND NEW and SEALED Sun Microsystems Fields Engineers Handbook,
volumes I & II. This is the 17th. edition of the FE handbook, Sun PN:
825-1341-12, DOM 01/30/98. The volumes are sealed, unused, and come in their
original shipping box. The list price for The Sun FE handbook is $750.00
Dollars retail. Get this book at a Fraction of the Cost. It comes with tabs
that divide the various Hardware sections, and features more than 1300
pages of text on every single part in Sun Microsystems' inventory.
Please note that Sun removes EOL'd systems from it's FE handbooks.
So, while the 17th edition is not the latest version of the FE Handbook,
it does contain information about EOL'd systems not included in the most
recent FE handbook, which is dated 4/2001. So, if you're running an older
system, such as a Sparc5 or Sparc20, you are probably better off obtaining
an older, rather than more recent, edition of the FE handbook.

: HAHAHA, didn't sell it in the first auction.
As a matter of fact, it did sell. Sun however had Ebay cancel the
auction after its completion, because Sun thought I was violating
their copyrights. I promptly countered and asked for an explanation.
By the time Sun finally got back to me with permission to complete
the sale, the original high-bidder had purchased an FE Handbook
somewhere else. Hence, the relisting.
Transcript of Sun's findings and high-bidder reply follows.

Dear Mr. Schwarz and Mr. Cox:
Thank you for your patience as Sun Microsystems investigated the
matter concerning Mr. Schwarz's auction of a Sun FE Handbook. We
apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused either of
you.
Our investigation has shown that it is permissible for Mr. Schwarz to
sell his copy of the Sun Field Engineering Handbook, 17th Edition.
While the sale of this copy is permitted, as detailed in the license
accompanying the Sun FE Handbook, there is no additional right to
further reproduce or copy the FE Handbook.
The planned sale of the Sun FE Handbook by Mr. Schwarz to Mr. Cox may
proceed. Again, we apologize for any inconvenience either of you may
have experienced because of this delay.
Regards,
Helen Parker

Sun's attitude to this whole matter stinks, and has deprived Mr. Schwarz of
a sale. Too bad for him. I have secured a later copy of the Sun material
I required by means other than EBay.
Life is too short to worry about such silliness :-)

That just bites. It amazes me that a company can try to bully people
into not selling books, or software, or what have you. If I've read a
book, used some software for awhile, used a CBT study guide for awhile,
and am done with them, am no longer using them in any way, shape, or
form, why the hell can I not sell them to someone else without worrying
about hearing from lawyers? It's ridiculous. I can understand fighting
piracy but this kind of stuff makes me wonder what kind of people run
these companies.

Greedy, stupid ones. That's why the whole computer industry is taking
it up ... well never mine. There's polite company here, I'm sure.

There has been a huge rash of people selling COPIES of FE handbooks or
other Sun documentation lately (a coworker got hit by this - he bought
training materials off eBay, and got color COPIES - so he sent them
back to the seller and reported him to Sun).
