Is there a special tool used to extract ram from a sparc2.
Also where is the best place to buy ram for a sparc2 and a 3/80.

Perhaps but I simply use a pair of needle nose plyers and find an end
of the SIMM that is devoid of traces and yank real hard to pull that
side up, then the other side comes up fairly easily with the same.

The SPARC 2 takes ordinary 9-chip 30pin parity SIMM's, the kind the
386/486 PC's used except that alot of those could make use of 3-chip which
the SUN SPARCstations can't (system is unstable when 3 chips are used).

Try MT Network Computer, 703-534-2134, ask for "DUC" ... if he has them he
can get them for a good price. You'll want 4MB units I'm sure although
it'll take 1MB SIMM's as well. They go in four at a time. Again make
sure to ask for 9-chip variety.

I thought I was the only person who did it that way. It is a bit
easier if you slip a thin knife down beside the SIMM to pull the
socket tab back, and you don't run the risk of breaking off the tabs.

I've always found that a needle nose plyers, with one prong in the hole and
one pressing against the socket works pretty well.

Yea, there is a special tool if you can find one. They work really
well, but needlenosed pliers and a pocket knife do the job.

In the words of my Network manager at University, "You want a pointy
thing". For removing the memory from a 386i Memory board (all 16x1Mb
SIMMS) we used a sharped Screwdriver type thing. Basically insert it
into one end, work that a *little* lose then work on the other side.

I would not recommend it, but it does work.

Yours,
Dave Brown.
